| Ramsay, like many low density residential, truly inner city communities,
is feeling the pressures of increased traffic density and redevelopment.
There have been a lot of changes inside and along Ramsay's borders.
The proximity to Calgary's downtown, the Calgary Stampede and Exhibition,
and the Saddledome mean that Ramsay's streets get a lot of traffic.
The Beautification Committee is dedicated to projects aimed to improve
the aesthetics of Ramsay's streets while maintaining safety and function.

| New Signage Project |
 We finally have an approved sign for our four community entrances! After taking into consideration safety, cost, and construction issues, we modified the design to include a large boulder with the community logo in aluminium. Thank you to all the community members who provided input over the last 2 years. We will now be able to complete our fundraising and hope to have new signs by spring!

| Ramsay Streetscape Beautification Project |
|
The "Streetscape Project" is a community initiative
with the purpose of expressing Ramsay ideals such as the village
concept. We have secured the assistance of architect and professor
Marc Boutin (Faculty of Environmental Design at the University
of Calgary). Public meetings have been held to discuss ideas,
with more planned in the near future. In the Fall of 2002,
a survey of Ramsay residents was conducted, and the results
are available here.
The Streetscape project was made possible through a generous
grant from the Calgary Foundation Neighbourhood Grants Project.

| Trees |
| Trees make our community more beautiful and peaceful.
They also can calm the flow of traffic. It is our mandate to request
trees every year for the community of
Ramsay. We are pleased to say that in 2002, 64 trees were planted
by Forever Green and the community.
In 2003, 24 trees are planned and these will be planted by Urban
Forestry. Thanks guys. |
| Outwest Park |
| Outwest Park, located at the corner of 8th Street (Spiller
Road) and 9th Avenue SE, is a joint initiative between Inglewood and
Ramsay Communities. With the co-operation and assistance of Canadian
Pacific Railway and the City of Calgary Parks Dept the land will be
redeveloped to be a safer more welcoming and attractive gateway into

| Annual Harvest Table / Arts and
Crafts Sale |
| Look for an announcement
in the Ramsay News early in the
fall for this annual event, held at the Upper Hall of the Community
Hall on Spiller/8th Street. Local artists and artisans sell
their wares with homemade foods being among the offerings. The
blueberry jam is especially popular as is the Hand blown glass
work. Each year it gets bigger and we hope to see you there. |
